In the second week of May, a three-day integration workshop was held at TU Delft in the Netherlands. Team members from BUT and TU Wien met with the hosts in the lobby of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering,
The welcome was followed by a tour of the laboratories, where the results of the work of the local students, such as model rockets, were shown.
Some of the previous designs for morphing wings were also shown. Those present were also given a glimpse of the SIMONA flight simulator. The excursion was followed by dinner at a local restaurant with all the international team members present.
The second day focused on the technical side of the project, where the basic principles of morphing wings and their benefits were presented through presentations by the hosts. Among the topics discussed was the sustainability of air transport in terms of energy resources and its impact on the environment, for which Prof. Dr. Arvind Gangoli Rao was the main contributor. After lunch, there was a discussion on involving young researchers in projects and how to help them with international publications. How to motivate students to pursue an academic career was also discussed and the young researchers present also commented on this. ICL team members and absent members of other teams joined the discussion online. At the end of the day, a discussion on the technical specifications of the project started, followed by a walk around Delft city centre.
The third day was also very successful in terms of work. Intensive discussion on the technical specifications and requirements have produced results.
The Integration workshop was concluded with a tour of the wind tunnel laboratories. In one of the tunnels the final result of BAANG project – a wing demonstrator – will be tested.
